Dear Service User
Re: Hereford City Shopmobility Service
You may be aware that over recent years we have had to rely heavily on grant funding to keep the Hereford City Shopmobility Service running.
Unfortunately, this year we have been unsuccessful in securing enough funds to maintain the service in its current format and as a result need to make some changes to the way we manage the service.
Rather than disband the service altogether a decision has been made by the Services for Independent Living’s Trustees to reduce the days the service is open. Therefore, with effect from the 1st April 2017 we will be running the service each Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. The times of opening remain unchanged.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays have been chosen as our records show that the largest number of scooters and mobility aids are borrowed through Hereford City’s Shopmobility on these days. We hope that by choosing these days to open we will best meet the needs of our customers.
This will run as a trial for six months to see if enough savings can be made to ensure the future viability of Hereford City Shopmobility. If the service is still running at a loss we may have to take the decision to close the service completely.
Naturally, this is a decision the Board would not take lightly, but you can help us to keep your service running, by making use of us as much as you can and recommending us to others you know who might enjoy the benefits of our mobility scooters.
Finally, if you would like to help in Shopmobility as a volunteer, or potentially be involved in setting up a group of volunteers to take over the operation of the service, we would love to hear from you. The more support we have to provide the service, the more likely we are to keep it running!
If you have any questions about the changes, or would like to volunteer to work at Hereford City Shopmobility, please do not hesitate to contact me.
