Herefordshire Direct Payments Support Service. I
subsequently established our home support agency, peer
support / mentoring and various short term projects over
the years that have benefited our service users.
I hold a Diploma in Leadership &
Management (2008), an M.A. in Social Work and a
Certificate of Qualification in Social Work.
I am proud to lead a committed,
resourceful and forward looking staff team."

Mary-Jane Bayliss
Head of Services and Projects
"Hi
my name is Mary-Jane, I am head of Services and
Projects. I have been working with SIL since Dec 2006.
My role involves the strategic management of the Direct
Payments Support Service. I also manage projects
supporting grants and funding applications. I am a
practice educator for student Social Workers and we have
regular placements at SIL. SIL offers a diverse range of
services and therefore there is never a dull day doing
my job."

Ginnie Jaques

Independent Living Service
"Hi. I’m Ginnie and I came to SIL in July 2005 to
manage the Independent living Service. As
registered manager I am responsible for ensuring that
our home support service meets the legal requirements of
the Care Quality Commission whilst maintaining its
unique individual focus. I am fortunate to work with
many wonderful people – service users, their Team
leaders and support staff who are working as a
team round the clock 24 / 7 365 days a year. As
Head of the ILS it is my job to negotiate the ever
changing pressures and requirements to lead the service
into a future where we can continue to enable disabled
and older people and their family carers to choose
support that enables them to live the lives that they
choose."

Ann Sparks
Head of Business Support / Finance
Manager"My name is Ann
Sparks and I am the Finance Manager at SIL. I deal with
all financial aspects within the organisation and
produce monthly accounts for the Finance Sub Committee
and Board. I find my work ever changing as the
organisation grows and I enjoy taking on new work
tasks."

Wendy Rutter-Butcher
Marketing Manager
"Hi my name is Wendy Rutter-Butcher and I have been with
SIL since July 2002. during this time I have been lucky
enough to be involved in many areas of SIL and am now
the Marketing Manager. This role includes managing the
website, newsletter and related IT, organising external
events, customer relationships, promotion of SIL and
building relationships with stakeholders. I enjoy the
pace and challenge of working for an organisation which
is constantly adapting to meet service user needs."

Caroline Batley
Payroll Officer"Hello everyone, my name is
Caroline and I’m the Payroll Officer for SIL. This means
that I am responsible for processing the payroll for about 120
DPSS Service Users as well as the in-house SIL and ILS payrolls.
I enjoy my work enormously and although most of my work is
fairly routine, each day seems to bring new challenges and there
is always something new to learn."

Celia Smith
Payroll Advisor"I joined SIL in early October
2010 as a Payroll Advisor. As yet, it is a little too
early to be able to define my role in detail as I'm
expecting it to develop over the next few months. My
recent experience has been with a firm of chartered
accountants where one of my roles was to run the payroll
bureau for clients. I am hopeful that in my new position
I will be able to help our service users make sense of
their duties and responsibilities as employers. I will
be happy to advise at all stages of the process from
registering as an employer, running a payroll and
solving all the day-to-day problems likely to be
encountered such as sick pay, maternity pay, holiday
entitlements etc."

working as an advisor with the employment support
service since 2003. My role has changed from being a
training to senior advisor. Recently with the changes
within the organisation I have started to learn to do
payroll and bookkeeping, which keeps my role fresh and

Sarah Goodger
DPSS Advisor"My name is Sarah and I have
worked for SIL since January 09. I support Service Users
with employing their own staff - this might include
supporting with job ads and interviewing, advice on
employment law and contracts and any issues that may
arise once the Service User has a Personal Assistant in
post. I also support with bookkeeping and monitoring
returns to the Local Authority. My role is varied and no
two days are the same - which keeps my job interesting
and challenging"

Rosalind Lines

"Hi! I’m Ros and I’ve worked for SIL since 2008.
I began as a Support Worker, became a Team Leader, had a
spell as the ILS Development Worker and am now a Team
Manager for the Independent Living Service. My
role is to oversee the operation of our service users’
support plans and their teams of support workers. I
also set up support for new service users and
particularly enjoy introducing new service users to a
style of support that meets their individual needs for
choice and control in their lives."

Debbie Powney
ILS Team Manager
"Hello. I have been
with the Independent living Service at SIL since January 2006,
and have had various roles including Team Leader, NVQ Assessor,
Assistant Manager and I am now the ILS Team Manager. During this
time, I have completed all the mandatory training, such as first
aid, food hygiene, moving and handling, medication
administration, fire safety, and many other additional courses,
I have also enjoyed having the opportunity to gain an NVQ in
Management at level 2 (Team Leading), and more recently Health
and Social care NVQ level 4 in Leadership and Management. My
role is extremely varied and no two days are ever the same! SIL
continue to support more and more service users, and therefore
recruiting new teams is high on the agenda. I can be attending
reviews, Team meetings, supervising Team Leaders, visiting
service users, liaising with other professionals (Social
workers, District nurses etc), interviewing potential new staff,
arranging shift cover, providing direct support, and very
importantly paying the staff!"

"Hello my name is Gavin Long and I joined SIL in October 2011. I
have spent much of the last ten years, working as a support
worker for a number of local charities. I hope that this
experience will be useful in my role in helping the ILS team in
making sure that our service users needs for support are met.
Outside of work, I have a passion for sport, particularly
cricket. I am manager for the Herefordshire Disability Cricket
Squad. If you would like to play, or volunteer to help our
players, I would be delighted to hear from you."

"Hi, I’m Jane. Prior to working for SIL I had a range of
roles including field archaeologist and volunteer with Devon
Wildlife Trust. I also held various positions with Mencap over a
period of 8 years. I started working for the Independent Living
Service as a support worker in early 2010 and became a Team
Co-ordinator in April 2011. I really value working for an
organisation with such a good ethos and am proud to be involved
in enabling people to continue to live in their own homes and
lead the lives they choose."

worked for SIL for 5 yrs starting as a Support Worker and
working my way up to Team Co-ordinator. I really enjoy working
with my colleague’s as we all share the same ethos and strive to

Receptionist/Admin Assistant"I’m Lucy and I’ve
been working for SIL since May 2011. I work on reception so I
get to meet lots of our service users and visitors, which I
enjoy. Previously I have worked for charities in Wales including
an advocacy charity for people with a learning disability. I’m
really happy to be working for an organisation like SIL where
the independence of our service users is key."
