City Shopmobility Supporting Christmas Shoppers
Hereford City Shopmobility will be opening late on Wednesday evenings from the 22nd November until the 20th December to support people with mobility difficulties who want to enjoy the late-night shopping experience in the city.
The Service, which usually closes at 4.30pm, will be open until 7pm, with the last hire time being 6pm, enabling anyone needing help to access the city to enjoy the Christmas lights, the evening outdoor Christmas markets and of course the shops!
Hereford City Shopmobility which is managed by Services for Independent Living (SIL), has been facing an uncertain future, but this may change thanks to interest from Hereford business Mills Mobility Aids and Mobility & Care Services, which has worked with a number of similar services across Gloucestershire.
Shelagh Callaghan, SIL’s Marketing & Development Manager said: "We are working with our new partners to find creative ways to secure the future of the Service, and one of these is to extend opening hours to fit in with City events.
"Ultimately however, the future of Hereford City Shopmobility rests with the people of Herefordshire. It cannot continue without sufficient funding and with shrinking grant funding available this can only be generated through use."
If you would like to make use of the Service but feel anxious about using the equipment, the staff at Shopmobility are there to help with training and demonstrations. This Wednesday, the 22nd November Shopmobility will be in High Town between 10am and 7pm, so come along, try out a scooter and find out what it’s like to regain some of your independence.
