Health & Social Care Awards 2018

Services for Independent Living (SIL) is delighted to announce that it has been shortlisted in five categories at the Hereford Times’s first ever Health & Social Care Awards.
The Awards which cover a number of categories across the sector attracted a huge number of nominations and were judged by a panel of local health and social care representatives who were impressed by the high standard of the nominations.
SIL is a finalist in both the Care Employer and the Care Trainer category and has employees shortlisted for the Care Hero; Outstanding Contribution to Social Care; and Care Home Worker

SIL’s Chief Executive, Euan McPherson added: “I am delighted and humbled by the fact that we have been shortlisted, knowing the overall high quality of social care providers in the county. I think it is an acknowledgement of the hard work that staff in all areas of the organisation put in everyday”

The winners from each category will be announced at a special celebratory dinner on Tuesday, 18th September.

Care Quality Commission 2018 Report

Number: 38/18 14 September 2018

Services for Independent Living (SIL) is delighted with the results of its recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection which has rated it Good across all categories.

CQC inspections are carried out as a regulatory function under the Health and Social care Act (2008) and look at the overall quality of the service before providing a rating. The inspector spoke to a range of external organisations as well as people who use SIL’s services, family members and members of staff including the Chief Executive and the Registered Manager.

Within the Report it was noted that: “People’s rights with regard to consent and making their own decisions continued to be respected by staff…. People told us they were treated with respect and dignity. People were never made to feel embarrassed whilst receiving personal care”. It further stated that “People received person-centred care and support that reflected their individual needs and requirements.”

The inspectors also highlighted the excellent training given to support workers by SIL’s in-house training team and the organisation’s commitment diversity, equality and respect.

Val Javens, SIL’s Registered Manager, said: “Our success, of which I am duly proud, is attributable to each and every one of the people who work for SIL and support our service users in the way that they do, ensuring the 5 CQC standards are upheld at every level. We have an Awards Ceremony at our AGM which, this year, is on 4th October, but in reality our ‘Good’ rating is the award so richly deserved by all those who deliver SIL’s excellent frontline service. So, from me a very big thank you to you all.”

SIL’s Chief Executive, Euan McPherson added: “Val and her team have worked very hard to make a good service a great one, the inspection is a snapshot in time but is reflective of a lot of hard work’
