SIL’s Wheely Ready for Winter Weather!

Services for Independent Living (SIL), the local charity which provides support to elderly and disabled people in their homes, recently became the proud owners of a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The Mayor of Leominster, Cllr Clive Thomas, was delighted to be on hand to cut the ribbon and officially “launch” the SIL jeep.

SIL’s Board made the decision to buy the vehicle, which is ideal for poor road conditions and off-roading, after severe weather during the past couple of winters put both service users and staff at risk.

Euan McPherson, SIL’s CEO, said: “We have had many situations in the past where support workers have had to make very difficult journeys in order to get to our service users. Naturally, we don’t want to put our support workers at risk, but more importantly we don’t want our service users to be left without the support they need.

“Buying a vehicle which can be borrowed by staff who need to get to the more inaccessible homes, will make a huge difference, especially if we do get another severe winter which is what the met office has been predicting.”

The jeep has been branded in SIL’s new eye-catching colours, which will be integrated into its marketing materials over the coming months.

Angela Pendleton, Chair of SIL’s Board, said: “We are now confident that we really can meet our commitment of providing up to 24 hours a day support, 7 days a week for 365 days a year.

“We are now looking at sending some of our support workers on a specialist course to give them the skills to drive in challenging conditions and in a 4×4 vehicle. Whatever the weather, we hope to see SIL’s jeep out and about.”
