On 12th June, I will be setting off with my wonderful friend, Rai, at 6 am in the morning to complete a 24.5 mile walk over the Yorkshire Peaks of Ingleborough, Pen y Ghent and Whernside. We have 12 hours to complete the challenge and we will have to tackle 5200 feet of ascent. Since […]
SIL 25 Year 25K Miles Challenge
SIL marks a significant milestone this year; 2021. 25 years of delivering care and support in Herefordshire and so, we’ve set ourselves an exciting challenge and we’d like your help.
Walk, swim, run, roll, scoot, cycle, kayak, canoe, geocaching, or try all of them, whatever your choice of exercise we want you to join us in trying to achieve 25,000 miles between 1st April 2021 and 31st March 2022.
We would welcome anyone who is a SIL supporter, Staff, Trustees, people we support, family and friends to take part or you can support us by donating to Megan Baker House via our JustGiving page – info to follow.
As the challenge progresses we hope people will share their stories in words, pictures, or video, so that we can add it to our blog, highlight great achievements in our newsletters and bulletins.
We want to make the challenge as accessible as possible, so would welcome input from anyone with mobility or access needs that would like to try a new activity and we will see what we can do to make it happen.
Megan Baker House runs sessional services for adults and children with neurological motor disorders like Cerebral Palsy, Dyspraxia, Parkinson’s, Acquired Brain Injuries and Multiple Sclerosis. Some of the people we support have similar motor disorders so we know how important these services are. If you would like to find out more go to: https://www.meganbakerhouse.org.uk/
Where it all started: Last year I was watching a programme about being overweight and the impact COVID-19 can have on you if you are overweight. At this point I was not exercising and eating whatever I wanted when I wanted. My BMI was obese, so looking at the impact that COVID-19 could have on […]
‘There is something to be wondered at in all of Nature’ – Aristotle We started our SIL 25k mile challenge not only as a celebration of our 25 years in care but also as a way to encourage staff, friends and service users to feel the benefits of exercise on mental well-being. Many of us […]
Although SIL’s 25k mileage challenge is a way to mark our silver anniversary, it is also to try and encourage all our staff, service users and support workers to think about the health and wellbeing benefits of sport, while raising money for Megan Baker House. Covering miles may not be easy but we know some […]
25,000 miles to mark 25 years is certainly a long road to travel and SIL’s staff, service users and supporters are already beginning to rise to the challenge. However, underlying this adventure is the hope that between us and with the support of those who can’t be part of the challenge themselves, we can raise […]
Hello, how are you all? It’s April 12th and the shops are re-opening as the next phase of lockdown restrictions are being lifted. I wonder how miles you could clock on a shopping trip perhaps combined with a trip to the hairdressers. Gyms are also opening for individuals, so if you think it’s a bit […]
Have you got started yet? It’s now nearly a week since we launched our big 25K miles challenge in support of Megan Baker House, SIL charity of the year. Whilst the weather is warming up (well, we hope it is – fingers crossed there are more sunny days on their way) we are going to […]
SIL takes on 25,000 mile challenge to celebrate its 25 year anniversary… no, it’s not an April fool.
