Care and Support Assistant

Male* buddy needed for 16-year-old boy near Malvern with high functioning autism. He needs support with his social skills and is eager to attend live music events on the weekends.

5 hours per week mainly on a Saturday but this may vary during school holidays paid at £9 per hour.

* The requirement for a male to undertake this role is a Genuine Occupational Qualification. The above post is therefore exempt under Section 7(2)(e) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

About the Young Person

You will be working with a 16-year-old boy with high functioning autism, who lives near Malvern with his family. He will need a buddy to support him socially away from the home. He is a big music fan so some of your time will be accompanying him to live events.

  • You will mainly be supporting him with various activities outside of the home

About You

You will need basic maths and literacy knowledge; basic IT skills will also be an advantage. Previous experience of similar work is desirable but not essential, as you will get the training you need.

You must be able to understand the importance of confidentiality, be very reliable, be patient, calm, be a good communicator and have a good sense of humour.

Teamwork is important as well as being able to work on your own initiative and have some flexibility to allow for holiday or sickness cover.

A non-smoker would be preferred. If you do smoke, we would ask that this is not during work time.

You will need to be a car driver/owner plus be confident on public transport.

About Direct Payments

Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan in place following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently.

The Young Person’s parents will be your employer and have full responsibility for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training etc. A support service assists them in meeting their responsibilities as an employer.

Salary: This is a flat rate of pay that takes account of unsociable hours and weekend working.

Hours: These are the minimally contracted hours. If additional support is required at other times, as much notice as possible will be given. An ability to be flexible would be an advantage.
