Big Cheque Hand Over

It was smiles all round as Vicky Nicolson-James and Angela Martin, founders of Accessible Herefordshire CiC, called in at the offices of Services for Independent Living (SIL) to collect a rather large cheque.

Each year staff from SIL nominate a charity they would like to support with fundraising events throughout the following year and Accessible Herefordshire CiC was chosen for 2025. The fundraising bonanza included SILโ€™s annual Easter Eggstravaganza, an afternoon tea party, a Christmas Jumper event and several raffles.

Euan McPherson, SILโ€™s CEO, said: โ€œAlthough we are a charity ourselves, we believe that we should also do what we can to support other charities that share SILโ€™s vision of independent living for all.

โ€œAccessible Herefordshire CiC advises, trains and supports Herefordshire businesses to increase their visibility to disabled customers and offer a warm, confident welcome both on line and in person. Encouraging venues and shops to be fully accessible, for all disabilities, is vitally important if disabled individuals are to have equal opportunities.โ€

SIL recently worked with Accessible Herefordshire CiC on the renewal of its Disability Leader Level 3 accreditation. Vicky and Angela have sound, practical knowledge and their support throughout the process was instructive and very much welcomed. They offered clear guidance, constructive feedback, and a collaborative approach that helped SIL strengthen its overall accessibility offer.

SIL is grateful for their expertise and the positive, practical support they provided. Working with them has been a genuinely beneficial experience, and SIL looks forward to continuing the relationship as it develops its accessibility work further.

Thanks to the generosity of SILโ€™s staff and service users the sum of ยฃ521.27 was raised.

This year SILโ€™s charity of the year is Herefordshire Growing Point, and SIL is already planning its events, including the annual Easter Eggstravaganza, which will take place on the 9th April.
