Guests at Services For Independent Living’s (SIL) Summer Afternoon Tea last week, were treated to much more than scones and cream.
The social event for service users was also the launch of SIL’s new Charitable Funds scheme, which hopes to help SIL’s service users, staff and local volunteer-led organisations.
SIL was delighted to welcome N Herefordshire MP Dr Ellie Chowns who undertook the official opening of the fund and was able to announce that five awards have already been made.
Applications will be assessed throughout the year, so there is no deadline. The fund is for organisations that deliver services via volunteers and support people who are disadvantaged and live in Herefordshire.
SIL’s Chief Executive Euan McPherson said: “We are very grateful to Dr Chowns for giving some of her time to SIL and helping us launch the Fund.
“She understands the challenges facing many small volunteer-led organisations due to pressures on funding and increases in the cost of delivery.
“SIL urges any organisation that meets our criteria and needs a small amount of cash to contact us.”
The application process is very simple. To be sent a copy of the application form, or for more information call 01568 616653 or email: contactus@s4il.co.uk” After the launch a raffle was held and a total of £120 was raised for SIL’s charity of the year, Marches Family Network.
