As spring brings lighter days and a renewed sense of momentum, this season marks an important moment for our charity and for the wider adult social care sector. Across our homecare, supported living, and Direct Payment Support services, we continue to focus on what matters most: supporting people to live independently, safely, and with dignity. At the same time, national developments are reshaping the future of careโchanges that influence both our work and the lives of the individuals and families we stand alongside.
The Evolving Landscape of Adult Social Care
Across the UK, adult social care remains firmly at the centre of national debate. The government has set out ambitions for a more responsive, personโcentred national care service for 2026โ2027โan important step toward longโterm reform and a more consistent experience for people who draw on care.
Yet this positive direction sits alongside significant challenges. Local authorities continue to face deep financial pressures, with sector leaders warning of widening funding gaps and rising demand for essential services. These pressures make collaboration between charities, providers, and communities not just valuable, but vital.
Providers Unite: A Stronger Voice for the Sector
We are proud to continue our work with Providers Unite, a collective effort to champion the voice of the social care sector. Through this partnership, we are:
- Raising awareness of the essential work carried out by care workers and support teams
- Highlighting the challenges facing providers across the UK
- Advocating for sustainable, longโterm solutions that protect quality care for all
This shared voice is helping to elevate the profile of social care and ensure the sector is represented in national conversations about reform and funding.
Positive National Developments This Spring
Amid the challenges, there is welcome progress that will directly benefit both the workforce and the people we support:
- Increases to the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage will support hundreds of thousands of care staff across the country, recognising the vital contribution they make every day.
- An uplift to the Minimum Income Guarantee means many people who contribute toward their care costs will be better off, helping to ease financial pressure at a time when many households are feeling the strain.
These changes reflect a growing recognition of the importance of care work and the need to support those who rely on care services.
Looking Ahead
As we move through spring and into the months ahead, our focus remains on delivering highโquality, personโcentred support while continuing to advocate for a fair, sustainable future for adult social care. The road to a truly responsive national care service will take time, but through collaboration, persistence, and a shared commitment to the people we support, meaningful progress is possible.
