At SIL (Services for Independent Living), we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live with confidence, dignity, and independence—regardless of physical ability. That’s why we’ve been working on something revolutionary: a reablement tool designed specifically for people with upper body disabilities, and we’re inviting YOU to be at the heart of its creation.
The Call to Action: We Need You
We’re calling on people with limited or no use of their arms or hands to help test and refine an empowering new device—a Mouth Tool Set—that could transform daily life. Whether it’s scrolling on a tablet, cooking, creating art, or even gardening, this tool is designed to make everyday tasks more accessible.
Now, we need real-world insight from people like you to perfect it.
What Is the SIL Mouth Tool Set?
Developed in response to the needs of a long-time SIL service user, this tool set combines a mouth-held dental resin puck with a detachable metal rod and interchangeable task-specific tools. Think precision and ease—designed to fit seamlessly into your day-to-day routines.
You’ll be helping us shape a tool that brings freedom into people’s homes, routines, and passions.
👥 Two Phases. One Shared Goal.
Phase 1: Initial Testing – Be a Founding Tester
📍 Location: SIL Offices, Leominster
(1 Owen Way, Leominster Enterprise Park, Leominster Herefordshire HR6 0LA)
Date: Thursday 7th August 2025
Working with our designers and a team of NHS disability experts, you’ll try out the prototype, interact directly with our design team, and help us understand how the tool set works for you. We’ll ask for your thoughts on usability, comfort, and design -all in a relaxed and supported environment.
Phase 2: Optimised Design Trial – Expert-Level Testing
📍 Location: SIL Offices, Leominster
Date: Thursday 18th September 2025
In this next phase you be testing an updated version of the tools set. Your continued input will bring the device one step closer to transforming lives across the UK and beyond. The second session will be run by our designers and the team of NHS disability experts.
Each session will last no more than an hour. We will be happy to reimburse travel costs and will also pay £125.00 per session to cover your time.
Why Your Help Matters
This isn’t just product testing—it’s co-creation. Your feedback will directly influence a device that could help thousands of people regain control, independence, and a greater quality of life.
Together, we won’t just be developing assistive technology. We’ll be building hope, possibility, and a more inclusive future.
