SIL GAINS EMPLOYMENT BRONZE

Services for Independent Living (SIL), the local charity which provides support to elderly and disabled people in their homes, has been recognised by the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC) for its work in recruitment amongst veterans and families of serving personnel.

Because of this SIL now has the Bronze Award within the AFC Employer Recognition Scheme.

SIL signed up to the AFC in 2019 and part of its commitment is to ensure that anyone applying for a job with the organisation, who is a veteran or family member of serving military personnel, will automatically be guaranteed an interview.

Euan McPherson, CEO, said: “SIL provides care and support to people across the county and because of Herefordshire’s strong links with the military, it seems only right that we do what we can to enable service personnel and their families to secure employment.

“We know that often family members are discriminated against because they may need to take time off due to circumstances beyond their control, so we offer a supportive and flexible working environment, which enables them to do this.

“Not only do we have a number of employees who are part of a military family, but we also support a number of veterans in their own homes.”
