Mount Snowdon holds no fears for an intrepid team of walkers from Services for Independent Living (SIL) who will be climbing its peak in May to raise funds for the Leominster based charity.
SIL supports a number of disabled and older people across the county and Walk with SIL is raising money which will directly benefit service users. The team, led by Millie Davies and Lydia Lawrence, has been training since last Autumn and has secured sponsorship from Leominster companies 7One7 Engineering, Frank H Dale Ltd and The Rotary Club.
Fundraising has had a huge boost thanks to the generosity of Luctonian Vixens who collected an amazing £1,448.68 during two events in Morrisons Leominster; cycling 200 miles on a static bike and a stepathon, completing 3560 steps, the height of Snowdon. To date Walk with SIL has raised £3,284 toward special events and projects.
Together with Simon, the team’s woolly mascot, training is gaining pace, with climbs up Brown Clee Hill, Pen Y Fan and Shobdon woods already completed. As the day approaches the team will be increasing their footsteps and be getting more miles under their belts.
