Facts and Figures

    • 1996: Organisation begins as Herefordshire Centre of Independent Living (HCIL) when a group of disabled people begin campaigning for a pilot Direct Payment scheme in Herefordshire
    • Since 1998 we have provided a Direct Payment Support Service
    • In 2004 we established our home support agency
    • From 1st October 2011 SIL was awarded a contract to provide a Direct Payments Support Service in the County of Torfaen in South Wales
    • Approximately 350 people use our services
    • SIL is a certified ISO 9001/2008 organisation. This is an internationally recognised quality management system which provides proof that a business has implemented an effective quality management system, and provides a consistent service
    • SIL holds the ‘two ticks’ Positive about Disabled People accreditation which relates to the employment of disabled people. We guarantee an interview to disabled applicants meeting the essential job criteria
    • We employ over 100 support workers and 21 office based staff working from Leominster Head Office and from our office in Torfaen, South Wales.
    • SIL is currently rated 'Good' by the Quality Care Commission, with the latest inspection in August 2018 giving us a detailed report.  The report can be found by clicking the link to the CQC website at the bottom of any page of our website.
