Facts and Figures

    • Services for Independent Living began as Herefordshire Centre of Independent Living (HCIL) in 1996 when a group of disabled people started campaigning for a pilot Direct Payment scheme in Herefordshire.
    • Since 1998 it has provided a Direct Payment Support Service and currently supports over 200 people in receipt of direct payments.
    • In 2004 we established our home support agency, called Independent Living at Home.
    • We employ over 75 support workers and have 20 office based staff working in our Leominster office.
    • SIL is the only organisation in Herefordshire which has been awarded the Disability Confident Leader status. This is in recognition of the work we do to challenge attitudes towards disability and how we attract, recruit and retain disabled workers. We guarantee an interview to disabled applicants meeting the essential job criteria of all internal vacancies.
    • SIL is currently rated 'Good' by the Quality Care Commission, after its latest inspection in August 2018.  The report can be found by clicking the link to the CQC website at the bottom of any page of our website.
